West Texas A&M University is one of the Texas Panhandle’s greatest assets. The university not only makes a lasting difference in the lives of its students, but also enhances the economic and cultural wealth of Canyon, Amarillo and the surrounding area. As one of the largest employers in the area, WTAMU draws students and visitors to Amarillo, and helps create a skilled, educated workforce.

After several missed opportunities throughout Amarillo’s history, the city is expecting its first 4-year university when West Texas A&M opens its new downtown Amarillo Center. The standalone building will be in the renovated Commerce Building at 8th Avenue and South Tyler Street, a property allowing future expansion. The Center promises to infuse new life into Amarillo. Though renovations were formally launched in an October 2015 ceremony, funds are still being raised for the project.

Contributions to the Buffalo Council will be used to support projects like the new Amarillo initiative by West Texas A&M University and to create scholarships for deserving students.
